This is the fifth and last season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which follows the lives of Agent Phil Coulson and the entire S.H.I.E.L. D team. This season, the stakes are higher than ever before, with S.H.I.E.L. D. fractured, Coulson is dead, and the team must somehow try to come back together again in order to save the world from destruction at the hands of HYDRA. The fifth season began airing on December 1, 2017, with the episode "Orientation". Production started in June 2017. The season was ordered in May 2017. It premiered in Australia on December 2, 2017. On March 8, 2018 it was announced that this season would be the final season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The fifth season features Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Jason O'Mara, Brett Dalton and Jeff Ward in their series regular roles. On March 8, 2018 it was reported by SpoilerTV that principal production had wrapped on the season.
